BOSTON, Mass. - The Dartmouth women's soccer team held No. 16 Boston University scoreless for 80 minutes, but the Terriers used two goals in the final 10 minutes to take a 2-0 win over Dartmouth on Wednesday night.
After 80 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Terriers got on the board in the 80th minute on a goal from Tiya Gallegos. Gallegos connected with a Megan McGoldrick cross on the right side, which she put in the lower right corner which proved to be the game-winning goal.
Dartmouth (3-10-0, 1-3-0 Ivy League) played a very defensive game and despite 11 shots from Boston University held them to just four shots on goal and one corner kick on the evening. Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) led the Dartmouth offense with two shots while teammate Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) also added a shot. Freshman goalkeeper Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) made two saves in 90 minutes of action.
The game was a defensive match from the outset with neither team getting much of a rhythm contributed to the rainy weather conditions. The Big Green had a great scoring opportunity in the 17th minute when a shot from Moschitto hit the post and the ball scattered just wide.
Saunders and the Dartmouth defense kept the Terriers at bay for the majority of the game with Sunders making several saves including a point blank save in the 28th minute of action.
Moschitto made BU goalkeeper, Kelly King, make a save right before halftime as the teams went into the break tied at, 0-0.
Boston University (15-2-1, 7-0-0 America East) sealed the win with a goal from Madison Clemens in the 84th minute, giving them their 10th consecutive win.
Dartmouth returns to the friendly-confines of Burnham Field on Saturday (Oct. 22) when it hosts Ivy League foe, Columbia. Kickoff between the Big Green and Lions is set for 7 p.m. The game is the second game of a doubleheader between the Dartmouth men's team that also takes on Columbia at 4 p.m.
