Davis Makes 16 Saves in Trine
ANGOLA, Ind. - Despite a huge defensive effort from freshman goalie Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet), the Trine University women’s soccer team fell to Calvin 3-0. The loss drops the Thunder to 1-10-2 on the year and 0-8-1 in the MIAA.
The Thunder defense held strong through the first 10 minutes, but would surrender a goal in the 11th minute. The defense would shutout the Knights over the next 57 minutes as they trailed just 1-0 at the break. Calvin would score in the 68th minute off a shot that just squeaked by and into the net. The final goal came on a little bit of bad luck for the Thunder. After the initial shot from about 3 yards out was stopped by Davis, the Calvin player would be right there to get the rebound for the empty net goal.
Despite allowing the three goals, Davis made a season-high 16 saves while facing 26 shots for the match.
Trine’s best opportunity for a goal came in the 15th minute when sophomore Eleni Agelopolous (Munster, Ind./Munster) stole the ball from a Calvin defender and a ripped a shot from 15 yards out but it sailed wide right.
Trine will have a day off before returning to action on October 11 when they host Hope for a 4:00 p.m. match.
