DAYTON MEN’S SOCCER BATTLES TO DRAW AT FORDHAM
BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team picked up an important point on the road Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Fordham.
The Flyers (10-4-3, 5-0-2 A-10) have already clinched a spot in the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship tournament in two weeks while Fordham (6-6-4, 4-2-1 A-10) will need at least a point in its final game next week to make the postseason.
KEY STATS
Dayton out-shot Fordham 25-6 in regulation and put eight on target compared to the Rams’ two.
The Flyers benefited from a 4-2 corner kick advantage.
Senior Maik Schoonderwoerd led the team with eight shots while fellow senior Amass Amankona and junior James Haupt had five shots each.
Junior goalkeeper Justin Saliba had one save on two shots on target faced.
UD remains unbeaten in A-10 play with 17 out of 21 possible points.
This was the fourth overtime game for Dayton this season. The Flyers are 1-0-3 in extra time contests.
Because of the point on the road, Dayton next week can finish tied for second in the A-10 with a loss, tie for first with a draw, or clinch the regular season title outright with a victory over VCU.
DAYTON GOALS
81st Minute – Junior Lalas Abubakar (2nd goal of season) tied the game up at 1-1 with a goal on the assist by senior Maik Schoonderwoerd on the free kick. (Dayton 1, Fordham 1)

CURRIER’S TAKE
“The team did a great job in equalizing the game up in the second half,” said head coach Dennis Currier. “We had to break down a good defense to force overtime. We missed too many good chances in the overtime to get the win.”
