DAYTON DOMINATES IN 3-0 WIN OVER XAVIER
DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women’s soccer team shut out Xavier 3-0 Saturday night at Baujan Field in front of 1,102 fans. The Flyers improve to 10-4-0 and 4-1-0 in the Atlantic 10. Xavier drops to 6-8-1 and 1-4-0 in A-10 play.
Dayton had 38 shots to Xavier’s 4, including a 17-1 shots on goal advantage. The Flyers also had 10 corner kicks to Xavier’s two.
Junior Juliana Libertin scored first for the Flyers, converting a penalty kick in the 20th minute. Libertin was dragged down in the box by a Xavier defender and she got the honors. She buried the shot for her 10th goal of the season and gave UD its 1-0 lead at the half.
Senior Colleen Williams, who was honored prior to the game for becoming UD’s all-time leading goal scorer, tallied her 13th goal of the season and 54th of her career in the 81st minute to give the Flyers some cushion. Sophomore Alli Klinefelter fed her the ball into the box and Williams turned, finished and drilled the back of the net on the far post.
Freshman Ashley Campbell put away her eighth goal of the season in the 85th minute. Sophomore Kelsey Smigel chipped a ball into the box and Campbell buried it near low post past the diving keeper.
The Flyers will host their alumni match when they host St. Bonaventure next Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field.
