Dayton men's soccer announces 2015 class
The University of Dayton men's soccer program announced the addition of four players for the upcoming school year.
Elijah Redman, Shane Strunk, Nathan Wisbey, and Kennedy Nwabia will all join the Flyers in 2015-16.
"This class has large expectations coming into a young team that put up some strong results in 2014 and have the mentality to pursue a championship this season," said Head Coach Dennis Currier. "We are excited to have these decorated student-athletes join our program and expect them to be prepared for pre-season in August. We feel they have the qualities to be a successful Dayton Flyer and help elevate our program to the next level."
Nwabia is a forward from Roanoke, Va. where he had a strong career at North Cross High School. The 6'4" striker was named the Virginia Player of the Year in VISAA Division II. On top of that, Nwabia earned First Team All-State and Conference Player of the Year honors. He totaled 33 goals and five assists while leading his team to a 23-1-1 record, and conference and state championships.
Strunk is a versatile player, seeing time at both forward and midfielder at Duchesne High School in St. Louis, Mo. At 5'11", Strunk spent the last three seasons playing for the St. Louis Scott Gallagher Academy Team.
Redman is a local product after playing at Kettering Fairmont High School just south of Dayton. The 5'11" midfielder/forward played for the Ohio Galaxies Soccer Club as well. With Fairmont, Redman was named GWOC All-Conference First Team in 2013 as well as MVSSCA All-Miami Valley Second Team. This past year, he was named First Team by the GWOC All-Central Division and GWOC All-Conference.
Wisbey rounds out the class as a 6'0" goalkeeper from Rockford, Ill. While playing at Boylan Catholic High School, he earned 2014 IHSA All-State honors, as well as being named All-Sectional. Wisbey also led his team to conference and regional championships.
The Flyers are coming off a successful 2014 season in which they won seven games, picked up wins against ranked opponents, and played in the postseason at the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament in Virginia. The Dayton coaching staff brings back a majority of the team from this past season and looks forward to what this incoming class can contribute.
