DAYTON STORMS BACK TO BEAT SBU 4-1

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Dayton women’s soccer team scored four second-half goals in a 16-minute span to defeat No. 4 seed St. Bonaventure 4-1 Friday night at VCU Sports Backers Stadium. Dayton improves to 14-5-1 on the season.
The Flyers face defending A-10 tournament champion La Salle in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship Final Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. Dayton will be vying for its ninth A-10 Tournament title.
Junior Kelsey Smigel scored two goals, sophomore Megan Herr notched a goal and sophomore Ashley Campbell scored her fourth goal of the tournament and 18th of the year for the Flyers in the comeback victory over SBU. Sophomore Nicole Waters and senior Juliana Libertin reached 16 assists and broke the UD single-season record (15 set by Colleen Williams in 2012).
The Flyers also broke the A-10 Championship single-match record with their 35 shots, breaking the old mark of 30 set by the Flyers vs. VCU in the 2012 Championship.
All the action started in the 73rd minute when UD took advantage of its ninth corner kick. Waters sent the kick into the box and Herr was on the back post to head it in. It marked the defender’s second goal this season.
Not even two minutes later Smigel took a through ball from Campbell and beat the keeper for the Flyers’ second goal.
Waters picked up her second assist of the night and 16th of the season when she found Campbell who finished to the upper 90 in the 87th minute.
Smigel picked up her second goal of the match in the 89th minute putting away a rebound shot off the crossbar from senior Juliana Libertin, who also has 16 assists this season.
St. Bonaventure (8-10-1) held a 1-0 lead at the half on Lauren Hill’s goal in the 15th minute.
