DAYTON WOMEN'S SOCCER TOPS CINCINNATI 3-1
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women’s soccer team defeated Cincinnati 3-1 Friday night at Baujan Field in its home opener in front of 673 fans.
After more than 64 minutes with no score, the Flyers, who improve to 2-1-1, broke out with two goals in 44 seconds to pull away from the Bearcats (0-3-0).
Junior Chelsea Rose scored her first collegiate goal to get UD on the board first, putting away a baseline cross from senior Juliana Libertin at the 64:21 mark of the match.
At 65:05, sophomore Nicole Waters scored the game-winning goal on a blast from the top of the 18-yard box after a nice pass from senior Steph Emery.
UD’s final goal came on a penalty kick in the 77th minute converted by Juliana Libertin, her second goal of the season. The Flyers were awarded the PK after sophomore Ashley Campbell was on a break-away and was taken down in the box by the UC keeper.
Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth James had a near flawless match with nine saves, but the Bearcats’ Katie Greer floated a goal over her head in the 89th minute.
UD hosts Michigan State this Sunday at Baujan Field at 1 p.m. in its Youth Club Soccer Day. Admission is free and the first 300 fans will receive free popcorn and a Dayton Flyer women’s soccer schedule poster.
Also, back by popular demand this season, are the exclusive Dayton Flyer soccer scarves. Fans can pick up a punch card at the main entrance and must get at least seven punches to receive a scarf. A limited number of scarves are available for sale for $15 at the main entrance.
