DeLuca Tabbed First Team All-Horizon League
INDIANAPOLIS (10/30/2017) -- Senior Rachel DeLuca was selected First Team All-Horizon League and freshmen Kelli Doyle earned All-Freshman accolades as the conference office released its end of the year awards on Monday.
DeLuca wrapped up a decorated career, which saw her earn the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and First Team honors as a junior and a member of the All-Freshman Team as a rookie at Oakland in 2013. She recorded 28 points on eight goals and 12 assists as a college player, including eight goals and nine assists as a Titan.
As a senior, she led Detroit Mercy with a career-high 15 points on a career-best five goals and five assists. A team captain, she attempted all 56 corner kicks and just about every set piece on the season, while playing excellent on the defensive side of the ball.
The first team award from DeLuca makes it six times in the last seven years that the Titans have had a player earn first-team recognition.
Doyle started all 17 games she appeared in as a forward and was second on the team with nine points and tied for second with four goals. She found the back of the net on her first collegiate shot against Lawrence Tech – just the third game of the season – and added markers in the non-conference against Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan. She had a season-high two points on a goal and an assist on the road at Cleveland State.
The Titans just ended their 25th varsity season and will now prepare for the 2018 campaign.
