Denison hands Colonels first loss of year, 1-0
Centre's women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, giving up a second half goal to fall 1-0 to Denison on Saturday in Danville, Ky.
It was in the 61st minute when Denison's Lydia Harlan got free on the right side and put a shot past Centre goalkeeper Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.). The goal was the first Lenz or the Colonels had allowed in five games, going back to a 5-1 victory over Transylvania in the season opener on Sept. 1.
Denison was able to create more scoring chances throughout the match, outshooting Centre 24-10 overall, including a 14-3 edge in the first half. The closest Centre came to getting on the board came just two minutes after Harlan's goal when a shot by Anne Mitchell (Fayetteville, Ark.) glanced off the right post.
Lenz went on to record 11 saves in the match while Denison goalkeeper Andrea Karl had 10 stops. Each team had three corner kicks.
Denison improves to 4-3-2 on the season while Centre drops to 6-1. The Colonels have another home contest on Monday when they host Hanover at 7 p.m.
