Denver Women’s Soccer Sets 2017 Schedule

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s soccer program will host nine regular season games, including two as a part of the Sixth Annual Colorado Cup this fall, head coach Jeff Hooker announced on Tuesday.
Denver’s 2017 slate includes three 2016 NCAA Tournament teams, all of whom will visit CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Colorado (28) and San Diego (69) both finished in the top 70 of the RPI a year ago.
“We are looking forward to another fall season, and we are happy with how this schedule turned out,” head coach Jeff Hooker said. “The Colorado Cup continues to be a great way for us to start off our fall, and we are looking forward to having two of those matches back at CIBER Field this year. The remainder of our non-league schedule presents challenges that will get us ready for league play in October and November. With a Summit League regular season title in 2015, we feel that we are getting back on track to where we want this program to be, and we feel that this non-league schedule will prepare us well for Summit League play as we look to get back to the NCAA Tournament.”
Following two early August exhibitions against Northern Colorado (Aug. 7/Vail, Colo./2 p.m.) and Texas Tech (Aug. 12/CIBER Field/6 p.m.), Denver will open the 2017 Colorado Cup at home against Air Force (Aug. 18/7 p.m.), before capping off the opening weekend in the first game of a Colorado Cup triple header at Prentup Field in Boulder against Colorado State (Aug. 20/11 a.m.).
The Pioneers won’t leave Colorado in the first two weekends of the season as the Pioneers take on UC Riverside (Aug. 25/5 p.m.), before welcoming Albany to the Mile High City for a Sunday matinee at CIBER (Aug. 27/12 p.m.).
Denver will take its first of two trips out to California in the 2017 season to conclude the opening month of play. The first stop of the road trip sees the Pioneers take on Cal State Bakersfield (Aug. 31/8 p.m.) and San Diego (Sept. 3/2:30 p.m.). A few weeks later Denver will return to the west coast for games at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Sept. 21/8 p.m.) and UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 24/1 p.m.).
In-between the two trips to California, Denver will host a pair of single-game weekends at CIBER Field against Gonzaga (Sept. 10/12 p.m.) and a Colorado Derby clash with the University of Colorado (Sept. 16/7 p.m.).
The Pioneers open their eight-match Summit League slate with home matches against 2016 Summit League Tournament champion South Dakota State (Sept. 29/7 p.m.) and 2016 Summit League co-regular season champions North Dakota State (Oct. 1/12 p.m.). The Bison shared the regular season title with the Pioneers a year ago, but took the one seed in the tournament on a tiebreaker.
Following the Summit League opening weekend, Denver will play its next three away from home. The first of three is a single-game weekend at South Dakota (Oct. 6/3 p.m.) before Denver heads to Oral Roberts (Oct. 12/6 p.m.) and Omaha (Oct. 15/12 p.m.).
DU’s final homestand of 2017 features in-league games against IUPUI (Oct. 20/6 p.m.) and Western Illinois (Oct. 22/12 p.m.), in advance of the Pioneers’ regular season finale at Fort Wayne (Oct. 27/5 p.m.).
The site for the 2017 Summit League Tournament will be announced this summer and will take place Nov. 2-4.
