<p><strong>OXFORD, Ohio &ndash; </strong>Behind an excited crowd of 543 fans, the Miami University soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Xavier on Friday night. Kelsey Dinges scored a career-high two goals for the RedHawks. It was the sixth-straight home opener that Miami has been victorious in.</p> <p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m very pleased with the victory,&rdquo; commented head coach Bobby Kramig. &ldquo;I thought it was an excellent start for our team. The best thing about this game was the way we executed both offensively and defensively, taking the things we worked on in practice and making them work in the game.&rdquo;</p> <p>The RedHawks dominated play from the beginning on, keeping the ball in the Xavier defensive zone the majority of the first half. The first goal of the season came in the 12th minute when Jess Kodiak found Dinges just outside of the circle. Dinges dribbled it in and put a hard shot into the back corner to put Miami on the board.</p> <p>After several near misses, Dinges would strike again in the 32nd minute. Her shot from about 25-yards out would strike a Xavier defender in the head and deflect straight into the goal.</p> <p>&ldquo;That second goal came from the right side, and it ricocheted off someone&rsquo;s head,&rdquo; said Dinges. &ldquo;I got a little lucky, but it went in.&rdquo;</p> <p>Miami would go into the break in front 2-0, holding an 11-1 shots advantage.</p> <p>The RedHawks completed their scoring in the 61st minute of the second half. Kayla Zakrzewski sent a perfect pass to Kodiak in the left side of the box. Kodiak then made a move to get by her defender and hit the left corner of the goal to give Miami a 3-0 lead that proved to be the final score.</p> <p>&ldquo;Kayla did her thing of course by beating her defender and playing a perfect ball to me,&rdquo; said Kodiak. &ldquo;I tried some of the stuff we were working on in practice and was able to finish it.&rdquo;</p> <p>Defensively the RedHawks were solid all day, holding the Musketeers to only five total shots. Xavier did not get a shot on goal until late in the game, which Miami goalkeeper Allison Norenberg was able to make an easy save on.</p> <p>&ldquo;We wanted to come into this first game and work really hard for a win,&rdquo; said Kodiak. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s really good to see how our last two and a half weeks of work in practice has come through.&rdquo;</p> <p>Miami hits the road for the first time in the 2012 season when it takes on IUPUI on Sunday at 1 p.m.</p>
