Dragons Escape with Double Overtime Win Over Panthers
September 24, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican''s men''s soccer team went toe-to-toe with the conference''s preseason No. 1 squad, but the game''s lone score in the second overtime lifted Tiffin to the 1-0 road win at Panther Field Friday evening.
With its first loss in GLIAC play, ODU falls to 2-1-0 and 3-2-0 overall with both losses coming in overtime at home, while the Dragons improve to 4-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.
Just 2:24 into the final overtime, Tiffin midfielder Michael O''Neill gathered a pass from Ashton Campbell and ripped a low shot from the top of the box 23 yards away. ODU keeper Dean Dziewit (So./Waterford, MI) had a good read on the ball and appeared to make the diving save, but his momentum carried him off his line and he was unable to corral the ball before it crossed the goal line.
ODU was inches away from notching the win in regulation as Colby Catlett (Jr./Hilliard, OH) redirected a pass with a header in the 84th minute, but the ball caromed off the inside of the post and back into the field of play.
The Panthers, led by Casey Weddle''s (Jr./Cincinnati, OH) four shots and three shots on goal, finished with a slim 16-15 edge on shots and posted a 9-3 advantage on corners.
The Panthers will look rebound at 3:30 p.m. this Sunday, Sept. 25 as they continue conference play with a trip to Findlay.
