Drexel Knocks Off ODU, 4-1
DREXEL HANDS ODU SOCCER MONARCHS ITS FIRST LOSS, 4-1
PHILADELPHIA, PA—Michele Patia scored two goals to lead the Drexel Dragons (4-2-1/1-0) to a 4-1 CAA victory over previously unbeaten and fourth ranked ODU (6-1/0-1) Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs lone goal came in the second half by Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) on an assist from Jordan LeBlanc (Haverford, PA.).
The Monarchs ranked fourth nationally by Soccer America and College Soccer News, eighth by Soccer Times, and 11th by the NSCAA/Coaches poll.
Drexel took a an early lead as Pataia scored seven minutes into the match, then Mark Donohue scored with 12 minutes remaining in the first half for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Pataia scored again early in the second half with an assist from Nathan Page. Fabio Machado added their fourth and final goal with an assist from Matheus Goncalves.
Drexel edged ODU in shots, 19-16 overall and 11-7 in shots on goal. Drexel Tim Washam came up with six saves, while ODU’s victor Francoz had seven.
The Monarchs return to action on Friday evening when they host George Mason at 7 p.m. in a contest that will be televised nationally
on Fox Soccer Channel.
