Drexel Opens Season With Win at Loyola
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Drexel University women's soccer team scored its opening goal of the season in the sixth minute and the Dragons never looked back, claiming a 3-1 win against the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds on Thursday night. BY THE NUMBERS --Delaney Lappin, Isabel Kuzy, and Casey Touey each tallied their first goals of the season. For Touey it was her initial career marker. --Lily Dunbar was the primary distributor with two assists. Kylie Kutz, Tori Yost, and Noemi Christ each delivered one helper. --The Dragons held a 9-4 advantage in total shots and had a 4-2 edge in attempts on target. It was the first season-opening win for Drexel since a 2-1 victory at Temple on August 19, 2016. HOW IT HAPPENED --The Dragons jumped on the board in the sixth minute off a set piece as Dunbar delivered a perfect ball from outside the top left corner of the box. Lappin rose above the mixer and headed the ball into the net. --Continuing to pressure later in the opening half, Kuzy settled a loose ball in the box that bounced around after a corner and tapped it lower left for a 2-0 Drexel edge. --Adding an insurance goal, Touey made a solo run down the left side before cutting back to the near post and sending the ball past the keeper in the 54th minute. UP NEXT Drexel continues its season opening road trip with a contest at Marist on Sunday, August 21. Opening tap from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
