DSU FALLS 2-0 TO VMI
(Dover, Del.) – Sunday afternoon, the Delaware State women’s soccer team (0-4) wrapped up its weekend road trip with a 2-0 loss to the VMI Keydets (2-3), behind two goals off the foot of midfielder Kristen Whitehurst (2).
Whitehurst’s first score occurred during the 37th minute when she controlled a pass from midfielder/forwardMyranda Emery (1) and managed to put it in. Defender/midfielder Nicole Blixt (1) was also credited with an assist.
At intermission, the Hornets kept the deficit at one, while VMI owned the shot count, 4-3. In the net, meanwhile, Hornets’ Katelyn Koslosky (0-4) tallied three saves.
In the second period, Delaware State continued its effort in pursuit of its first win throughout the half, but the Keydeys put the match out of reach during the 86th minute midfielder Meredith Baldasare (1) made a pass to a streaking Whitehurst (2). With the ball in her grasp, Whithurst was able to beat Koslosky for the goal.
At game’s end, both squads finished with nine shots, whereas midfielders Gabi Pinto and Julia Bossert led DSU with two attempts each.
In the case of Koslosky, she finished with four stops, while her counterpart, Emily Marbury (2-2), tallied four saves as well.
Coming up, the Hornets will continue their five-game road swing on Monday, Sept. 16 against Manhattan at 3 p.m.
