Dustman and Nahapetian earn weekly awards
October 22, 2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sophomore Darby Dustman and freshman Ani Nahapetian were both honored by the Patriot League on Monday following a pair of big victories this weekend. Dustman was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week after providing a spark for the Mountain Hawks in both wins, recording two of Lehigh’s three goals. Nahapetian, the league’s Goalkeeper of the Week, allowed just one goal over the two games and none over the final 195:01 as the Mountain Hawks jumped right back into the Patriot League Tournament race.
Dustman tied the score against the Bison in the 12th minute Friday night with a perfectly placed shot into the top left corner of the goal. Her goal leveled the score after the Bison got on the board just 30 seconds into the match. The game went to overtime 1-1 before senior Isabelle Li ended it with a golden goal in the 106th minute.
Against Colgate Sunday, Dustman again provided a crucially important goal when she converted a feed from junior Paige Dyrek just 1:06 into the second half to hand Colgate its first Patriot League loss of the season. The goal puts Dustman’s season total at three, which ties her for the team lead.
Nahapetian was stellar in both wins as she recorded five saves in each contest, stopping 10-of-11 sent her way last weekend. She picked up her first-career win over Bucknell, allowing a goal just 30 seconds in before shutting down the Bison over the final 105:01.
The Pleasanton, California native went on to shut out Colgate, giving her a streak of 195:01 without allowing a goal. The Raiders entered the match with 15 goals in their five Patriot League games and had not been held scoreless since Aug. 24 vs. Washington. Nahapetian’s five saves helped the Mountain Hawks shut out the Raiders for the first time since 2004. It marked Nahapetian’s first-career shutout as the freshman now owns a 1.93 goals against average and .759 save percentage for the season.
Also recognized by the Patriot League was freshman defender Paige Elliott, earning honorable mention laurels. Elliott was stellar at both ends of the field and proved crucial in holding a Colgate team averaging three goals per league game to no goals and only five shots on goal.
Dustman, Nahapetian and the Mountain Hawks will conclude their regular season against Holy Cross on Saturday. Gametime is set for 2 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. It will also be Senior Day as the four Lehigh seniors will be recognized prior to kickoff. The Mountain Hawks are still very much alive for the Patriot League Tournament as they hope to advance to their second league tournament in the past three seasons.
