Dustman garners Academic All-Patriot League
November 1, 2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh sophomore midfielder Darby Dustman has earned Academic All-Patriot League honors, as announced by the league on Thursday. Dustman owns a strong 3.81 GPA as an Industrial Engineering major while on the field, she stands tied for third on the Mountain Hawks in goals (3) and tied for fourth in points (6).
Dustman is one of 11 Patriot League student-athletes named to the team. The Salt Lake City, Utah native has enjoyed a breakout season as one of only three Mountain Hawks to start all 17 games (along with co-captains Murphee Greeley and Isabelle Li). Dustman has scored goals in two of Lehigh’s last three games (vs. Bucknell and Colgate), earning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 22. She’s been a key part of Lehigh’s surge into the Patriot League Tournament, winning its last three games to earn the #4 seed.
Dustman scored her first-career goal during a 3-0 win over regionally-ranked Marist. She has 16 shots on the season (seven on goal) with her last two shots on goal finding the back of the net. Dustman has played in 33 of 34 career games as a mainstay since stepping on campus.
In the classroom, Dustman has been just as impressive, owning a strong 3.81 cumulative GPA in an extremely challenging Industrial Engineering major. A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, she garnered the Faculty Athletics’ Council Award and was a member of the Dean’s List last fall and spring.
Fourth-seeded Lehigh will play at top seed Navy in the Patriot League Semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to face the winner of #2 Colgate against #3 American in Sunday’s championship game. The Mountain Hawks are eying their second Patriot League Championship in the last three years after capturing the 2010 title, their first in school history.
