Early Goals Spell Doom for ODU
September 24, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican''s women''s soccer team allowed just six shots to visiting Tiffin on Friday night at Panther Field, but that''s all the Dragons would need as three goals in the game''s first 10 minutes sent them past the Panthers, 3-0.
With its two-game win streak halted, ODU falls to 2-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the GLIAC, while Tiffin improves to 4-3-2 and strengthens its hold on first place in the South Division at 4-1-1.
The Dragons'' leading scorer Lauren Bowyer wasted little time giving Tiffin the lead as she collected a loose ball and put it away from eight yards out just 1:09 into the match.
Bowyer was not finished and at the five-minute mark of the first, she found the back of the net from the far left wing 21 yards away for her sixth goal of the year.
Just under five minutes later, teammate Alexandra Sevastakis got in on the action with a goal 15 yards deep from the close left wing.
ODU outshot the Dragons 18-3 the rest of the way, but could not overcome the early deficit as it remains winless against Tiffin in program history.
The Panthers wrap up their initial swing of South Division play this Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. as they make the trek to Findlay.
