GREENVILLE, N.C. - Sixth-ranked Memphis collected its eighth shutout of the season and improved to a program-best 12-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in Conference USA action Sunday afternoon topping East Carolina 2-0 at the ECU Soccer Stadium. With the loss, the Pirates fall to 5-4-1 on the year and 0-3-0 in league play.

Memphis grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute on a miscommunication between Pirate keeper Christiane Cordero and defender Kendall Booth. Christine Kline booted a ball from midfield into the box where Booth tried to clear it on a header that went into ECU’s net for the Memphis goal.

Rasheeda Ansari scored the Tigers second goal in the 63rd minute pushing their lead to 2-0. Kelley Gravlin started the play by passing the ball to Christabel Oduro on the left side and Oduro served the ball to the center of the box where Ansari placed into the back of the net.

ECU senior Kimmy Cummings recorded the Pirates lone shot on goal in the 85th minute when she found a seam in the Memphis defense and fired from 17 yards out, but Elise Kuhar-Pitters dove and making her lone save of the afternoon. For Kuhar-Pitters it was her eighth shutout of the season and 31st of her career.

The Tigers defense limited the Pirates to just three shots in the match and held a 13-3 shot advantage. Cummings recorded a pair of shots while freshman Beth Batchelor logged one. Natalia Gomez-Junco paced Memphis’ attach with four shots, two on frame.

ECU will be back on the pitch next Friday, Oct. 7 when they host Southern Miss at 7 p.m. (ET).
