ECU-Charlotte Game Cancelled Due To Severe Weather
Pirates Trailed 2-1 At Half Before Lightning Delay
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Following a 90-minute lightning delay, the non-conference soccer match between East Carolina (2-2) and Charlotte (2-2) Sunday afternoon was cancelled due to severe weather in the area. At the time of the delay, the 49ers led 2-1 at halftime – no make-up date has been announced.
Charlotte’s Carrie Dail scored the first of her two goals in the seventh minute of play when she placed a shot from 10 yards out for a 1-0 lead. Dail dribbled her way through ECU defenders and sent a ball just over the head of ECU keeper Christiane Cordero.
Eleven minutes later (17:39) Dail stuck again extending the 49ers lead to 2-0. This time she received a pass from Darby Broeker and fired a strike from 30 yards out, once again over the head of Cordero.
The Pirates finally got on the board in the 24th minute when Rachel Wechsler scored from 20 yards out off a rebounded corner kick. Danielle Romano sent a corner into the box that was punched out by a 49er and then laced a rocket towards the top of the goal.
ECU will be back on the pitch Thursday, Sept. 6 when they play host to High Point at 7 p.m. (ET).
