Faith Preziosi Named MAAC Rookie Of The Week
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the first weekly awards for the 2018 women's soccer season on Monday afternoon. Freshman Faith Preziosi claimed the first MAAC Rookie of the Week accolade with a strong collegiate debut against Sacred Heart last Friday.
Preziosi, who was one of four rookies to start in Iona's season-opener, scored the game-winning goal in the '53 off an assist from junior transfer midfielder Ciara Guglielmo. Her score made the tally read 3-0 in Iona's favor. Sacred Heart netted two late goals but the Maroon & Gold survived for a 3-2 victory. Friday's three-goal total was Iona's highest since Oct. 5, 2015 when the it tied against the Marist Red Foxes at Mazzella Field.
It is the first time an Iona freshman has been named the MAAC Rookie of the week since Julia Campagna '18 was honored on Oct. 20, 2014. Preziosi's game-winning score secured Iona's first win in a season-opener since 2014 when the Maroon & Gold bested LIU Brooklyn, 3-0.
The Maroon & Gold return to action on Tuesday, Aug. 21 against Army at Mazzella Field. Kick-off is at 3:00 PM. The game is being broadcasted live for free on IonaInsider.com.
