Falcons Cruise to 8-0 Win at Bay Path
The Albertus Magnus women's soccer team cruised to an 8-0 victory over Bay Path College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Falcons improved to 2-1 with the win as they used six second-half goals en route to the shutout win.
Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied a multiple-point game as she also assisted on the game-winning goal for the Falcons. Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) scored the Falcons' first goal of the contest in the 19th minute, which proved to be the game winner. Roke found Mirmina in the box before she drilled a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Sophomore Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) earned the start in net for the Falcons and did not face a shot as she picked up the victory. Teammate Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) played the final 45 minutes in net for the Falcons, her first appearance of the season.
The Falcons struck again in the first half in the 37th minute of play to go into the break with a 2-0 lead.
The Falcons came out in the second half and put six unanswered goals on the scoreboard. Gabrielle Roberts (Plymouth, Conn.) tallied her first goal of the year with a score in the 47th minute. Her goal, off of a Falcon corner kick, was assisted by sophomore Lauren Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.).
Roke scored in the 60th minute of play as Meghan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) sent a cross into the box from the left side of the field.
Freshman Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) registered her first-career points with the Falcons as she scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute before Loughman gave Albertus a 6-0 lead with a goal in the 71st minute of play. Freshman Liz Nagy (Meriden, Conn.) assisted on the play.
A miscue by the Wildcats' defense put the Falcons on top 7-0 before Renae Johnson (Bridgeport, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with her second-career goal in the 81st minute of the contest on a penalty kick after being taken down inside the box.
The Falcons outshot Bay Path 29-0 on the afternoon, including a 16-0 clip in the first half.
The Wildcats fell to 1-2 on the year with the loss.
Albertus will host MCLA on Saturday afternoon in New Haven. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
