FAU Women’s Soccer Drops Sun Belt Conference Opener
Jonesboro, AR - The Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team dropped its Sun Belt Conference opener 3-0 to Arkansas State University on Friday in Jonesboro, Ark. The Red Wolves scored two first-half goals and pulled away to win the league opener for both schools.
FAU drops to 4-4 on the season, whileArkansasStateimproves to 3-4-2. The Owls return to the pitch on Sunday, September 25, at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
ArkansasStatedid not waste much time grabbing the early lead as a goal from Jessica Jinglad came two minutes into the match. The scoring opportunity came following a rush by Ashley McMurtry. Michele Clark gave the Red Wolves a 2-0 advantage in the 25th minute after a shot was deflected into the near post.
The Red Wolves capped the scoring as Kara Nitti found the back of the net with two minutes remaining in the match.
Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Rice led FAU with three shots. Freshmen Amunique Scott and Yazmin Ongtengco each added one shot, while senior Gabriela DeVries and sophomore Brittney Nash also fired a single shot apiece.
