FAU Women’s Soccer Falls 1-0 to WKU in OT
Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime match to Sun Belt Conference-leading Western Kentucky University on Friday at the FAU Soccer Stadium. The Hilltoppers scored the winning goal four minutes into the extra session.
FAU falls to 3-7 on the season and 1-2 in SBC play, while WKU improves to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in league action. The Owls conclude the weekend with a home match against Middle Tennessee State University on Sunday, September 30, starting at 12:30 p.m.
WKU’s Lauren Moats scored her third goal of the season after receiving a crossing pass from Amanda Buechel in the 94th minute. Moats finished the play from six yards out into the lower right corner of the net.
FAU’s best scoring chance in the match came in the 60th minute when a header by freshman midfielder Claire Emslie from 10 yards away sailed just wide of the right goal post. Emslie tallied a team-high three shots in the match, including two shots on goal.
Junior midfielder Marisa Russo recorded two shots, while freshman forward Taylor Sorrels and senior defender Breanna Lewis each had one shot to round out the team’s eight-shot offensive attack.
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Lantes made eight saves. That performance gave her 301 saves so far during her career – only the second player in school history to achieve 300 or more saves.
