FC Dallas signs midfielder Danny Garcia
FC Dallas has signed Homegrown midfielder Danny Garcia, the club announced today. Per league and team policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.
"We are really excited to have yet another one of our Homegrown players sign with FC Dallas," said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman. "Danny Garcia is a very talented player. Watching him three years ago, we all knew he had a lot of potential. He has played a few matches with our reserve team, where he has done well. He has trained a number of times with our first team and now he is part of the U.S. Under-20 team competing at the World Cup. He is a talented left-sided player who will have plenty of opportunities to help FC Dallas find success."
Garcia, who is currently with the U.S. U-20 National Team for the 2013 U-20 World Cup, earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors with the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2012 after tallying four goals and six assists in 23 games. He is FC Dallas’ 11th Homegrown signing.
Garcia scored 15 goals in 29 matches with the FC Dallas Academy in the 2010-11 season, while also playing for the U.S. U-18 and U-20 National Teams. Garcia and teammate Kellyn Acosta helped the U-17/18 Academy to a title in 2012, winning the Academy Finals Week title game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. Acosta and Garcia are currently in Portugal with the U.S. team preparing for the World Cup, which begins next week.
The U.S. opens Group A play against Spain on Friday, June 21, at Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul. The match will be broadcast at 12:45 p.m. CT, live on ESPN2 and WatchESPN. That is followed by a June 24 game against France in Istanbul, live on ESPN2 and WatchESPN at 9:45 a.m. CT. The U.S. closes out group play with a June 27 match against Ghana at Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri, Turkey, at 11:45 a.m. CT, live on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
