FDU 2-0 in NEC For First Time Since 2004
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- For the first time since the 2004 season, the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team is 2-0-0 in Northeast Conference action, as the Knights defeated the two-time defending NEC champions, LIU Brooklyn, 2-0, Friday evening at LIU Field. With the victory, FDU improves to 6-6-1 (2-0-0 NEC) on the season, while the Blackbirds fall to 2-9-1 (0-2-0 NEC) overall.
The difference in the game was Amanda Goulet's third goal of the season. The sophomore delivered a header into the right side of the goal in the 24th minute to give FDU a 1-0 advantage, after junior Kasey Schiavoni delivered a perfect corner kick.
The visitors added one more insurance goal in the 77th minute when sophomore Mackenize Reese found fellow classmate Esther Rochon, who flicked the ball past the goalkeeper on the right side for her third goal of the season while extending the lead to 2-0.
The Knights were very economical on the evening, as they only took four shots. LIU took six and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Sage DoVale did not have to make a save attempt on the night en route to picking up her fifth victory of the season and splitting the shutout with sophomore Felicia Burr, who played the final seven minutes between the pipes, making the only save of the game for FDU.
The Knights will have a quick turnaround when they look to move to 3-0-0 in conference play at University Stadium against Wagner in a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, Oct. 13.
