FDU Battles to Scoreless Draw at Bryant
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team picked up one point in Northeast Conference play after battling Bryant to a scoreless draw at Bulldog Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the tie, the Knights are now 8-4-4 (5-0-3 NEC) on the season, while the Bulldogs are 5-8-2 (3-5-1 NEC) overall.
FDU has now recorded a shutout in five straight matches and six in its last seven. The Knights also have not allowed a goal in the last 546 minutes of play.
Junior goalkeeper Jacob Lissek recorded his fifth shutout in a row, which improves his career high to eight on the season. He only needed to save three shots as Bryant fired 16 on the day. Bulldogs’ goalkeeper Chris Knaub made seven saves, while the team made one as FDU had 18 shots on the afternoon.
Over the first 45 minutes, Bryant outshot the Knights 8-7 with each keeper making one save. In the second half, the Bulldogs held an 8-6 advantage in shots as Knaub made three saves, while Lissek made two.
In the two overtime periods, FDU outshot Bryant 5-0 with Knaub making a pair of saves in each period.
Senior Jack McVey had three shots on goal to lead the visitors, while freshman Jan Aubert added two on goal. Three others had one shot on goal.
The Knights are now in third place in the NEC standings with 18 points, one behind Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut, who is ineligible for postseason play. FDU still controls its destiny for the No. 1 seed if it takes care of business at home against St. Francis NY and at Quinnipiac next weekend.
The Knights will host St. Francis NY on senior night on Friday, Nov. 2 at University Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
