FGCU Adds Norwegian U17 NT Forward
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Looking to add even more depth to an already dangerous offense, FGCU women's soccer head coach Jim Blankenship announced the addition of Norwegian U17 National Team member Emilie Olsen to his 2016 squad.
"We are excited to add Emilie to our already strong 2016 recruiting class and group of returning players," Blankenship said. "Emilie is quick, technical and a pure goal-scorer. Her experience at the international level with the U17 Norwegian National Team along with her high-level club experience will help us as we take on this loaded 2016 schedule."
The 5-4 forward currently plays in the Norwegian First Division, 1. Division Women, for Åsane Fotball Damer averaging nearly a goal every two matches over the past two seasons. In her 29 matches in 2015 and 2016 combined, Olsen has scored 13 goals total helping Åsane to fifth place after 13 matches in the current campaign.
Olsen's journey with Åsane began with the Senior Team in 2013 at the age of 15, scoring a goal against Grie Kvinner Elite on April 5. In 2013, Olsen made 16 appearances with the first team, 11 with the second team and one more with the U16 squad, Olsen made her mark, totaling 15 goals in all competitions across all levels.
2014 proved to be a profound success for Olsen, who tallied 13 goals for Åsane's second team. In addition to her goal scoring efforts, Olsen made an impact with the first team, scoring three goals in 18 matches, solidifying her position with the Åsane's best.
Olsen joins an already decorated FGCU attack, led by Tabby Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS), who was recently named a Top 10 Forward in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
The Eagles will have a chance to prove themselves on a national level early in the 2016 season against North Carolina and Ohio State at the FGCU Soccer Complex. The Green and Blue open their home slate against the 22-time National Champions Tar Heels on Aug. 26 before facing the Buckeyes Aug. 28. Tickets for both matches are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting FGCUTickets.com or by calling the FGCU Ticket Office at 239-590-7145.
