MOBILE, AL – Troy University scored three goals in a span of 13:41 during the first half and the Trojans rode that outburst to capture a 3-1 victory over Francis Marion University, Friday evening (Sept. 19) in the opening match of the Jaguar Women’s Soccer Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama.

The Patriots (0-6-0) will face the host Jaguars on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (eastern time) to conclude their tournament action.

Trailing 2-0, FMU crept to within a single goal when sophomore Kelly Anthony curled her own corner kick into the Trojan goal at the 38:38 mark.  It was the Woodstock, Ga., native’s first career goal.

However, Troy’s Payton Donley answered with a goal in the 42nd minute as she capitalized on a scramble in front of the goal to knock home an insurance tally.

Neither team would score in the second half.

Troy (7-2-0) outshot the Patriots 23-5 and led 9-1 in corner kicks.  Anthony was the lone Patriot with multiple shots.

FMU senior Elizabeth Asare forced Troy goalkeeper Mikki Lewis to make a save in the 54th minute as the Patriots attempted a comeback.

Francis Marion junior goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry recorded five saves.
