DALLAS, Texas (Nov. 6, 2012) – Forward Quentin Albrecht, midfielder Daniel Gonzalez, defenders Anthony Hobbs and Jo Dawkins, and goalkeeper Robin Spiegel have been recognized by Conference-USA, earning all-conference honors for the 2012 season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Albrecht was selected to the second team, Dawkins, Hobbs and Gonzalez to the third team and Spiegel and Gonzalez to the all-freshman team.

Albrecht didn’t suffer from a sophomore slump, leading the team in goals (10), points (23), shots (70), shots on goal (29), game-winning goals (3) and minutes by a forward (1,529). His 10 goals and 23 points are the most by a Panther in a season since Matias Asorey netted 13 goals and had 29 points in 2002. Albrecht finished the season as one of the top forwards in the conference, ranking second in shots, fourth in points and goals, and tied for third in game-winning goals. For his career, Albrecht has 15 goals and five assists for a total of 35 points, putting him just outside the FIU top-25 for all-time scoring. This is the second all-conference honor for Albrecht, as he was named to the third team and to the all-freshman team a season ago.  

This is the fourth-consecutive all-conference selection for Hobbs, who was named to the third team as a freshman, second team as a sophomore, first team as a junior and now third team as a senior. He is the first four-time all-conference selection in the history of the program, as Hobbs finished his career at FIU with 67 games played, seeing 5,843 minutes on the pitch. He is also one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes a NCAA Division I student-athlete who has excelled in community, classroom, character and competition.  Fans are encouraged to vote through Nov. 19. Fan votes count for 1/3 of the vote, with the other 2/3 being determined by coaches and media members.

Dawkins has been named all-conference for the first time in his FIU career. One of FIU’s most consistent defenders, Dawkins was the only non-FIU ‘keeper to start all 18 games this season, leading the team with 1,626 minutes on the pitch. The co-captain finished up a stellar career with 4,909 minutes logged in 63 games played. The defender out of Auckland, New Zealand, scored a goal and compiled three assists for a total of five points in his career.

Gonzalez has been named to the third team and all-freshman team after leading the Panthers and C-USA with eight assists. His eight helpers are the most since John Pulido had nine in 2002. The Miami, Fla., native netted a goal against Wisconsin in a 3-1 victory early in the season and led the team as the go-to-guy on corner kicks with 39.

Spiegel was named to the all-freshman team after starting all 18 games between the pipes in 2012. The Wipperfürth, Germany, native made 55 saves for a .679 save percentage and recorded a shutout in his first-career game against Bryant while combining for two more against Jacksonville and Florida Atlantic. Early in the season, he was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 9, 2012.
