There is no favorite

One overriding truth about the 2014 men’s soccer season is that it’s utterly devoid of favorites. Sure, Notre Dame earned a No. 1 seed and is searching for its second consecutive national title. But the fragility of that position came to bear again last week when the Irish were knocked out of the ACC tournament by Clemson in penalties in the semifinal. The fact that Clemson is only the No. 7 seed in this tournament should tell you something. Further, Notre Dame was also clipped by unseeded Kentucky and Boston College, which didn’t even make the tournament. Anybody’s game.
