DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team fell to Michigan State Sunday at Baujan Field. Sophomore
Ashley Campbell scored on an assist from senior Meghan Scharer for UD's lone goal of the match.
The Flyers fall to 2-2-0 overall while the Spartans remain unbeaten at 3-0-1.
The Spartans scored both their goals on Flyer turnovers. The first came in the 19th minute. Allyson Krause wrestled a ball away from a Flyer defender and then beat UD keeper Elizabeth James on a 1v1 with a chip shot into the far post corner.
Megan Marsack stole a pass in the Flyers' third, and crossed into the box, and Erica Goodenough came out of the scrum with a goal in the 54th minute. James attempted to bat the ball over the line, but the assistant referee deemed the ball had crossed.
Campbell's goal came in the 80th minute. After a hard fought dribble to the base line, Scharer crossed into the box and Campbell connected on the pass with a sliding one touch off the near side post and into the goal.
The Flyers' schedule does not get any easier. They now play Tennessee this Friday, Sept. 6 and Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 8.
