FLYERS TAKE OUT NORTHWESTERN 5-2
DAYTON, Ohio – Junior Juliana Libertin scored two goals and had an assist, and senior Colleen Williams dished four assists to lead the University of Dayton women’s soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Northwestern (2-1-0) Sunday at Baujan Field.
“I thought she was looking for the assist too much, I want her looking for the goal," said UD Head Coach Mike Tucker of Williams. "She has a knack for finding the slightest of seams. Being responsible for four goals is incredibly good. I would really like her scoring more goals though.”
Senior Alexis Garcia and freshmen Nicole Waters and Ashley Campbell each scored a goal and senior Alysha Mallon distributed two assists in the effort over the Wildcats.
The 5-2 score marks the second game this season the Flyers have put up five goals on an opponent (5-1 win over UTSA on Aug. 19).
“We actually should have had more goals in the first half so we wouldn’t have had to work so hard in the second," said UD Tucker. "Five goals is good under any circumstances, however, I am not at all pleased about giving up two goals. It was sloppy giving up those two.”
UD (3-1-0) outshot Northwestern 21-10, including 12-2 on frame.
Libertin, the reigning A-10 Co-Player of the Week, scored her first goal in the 7th minute on a through ball from Williams.
Libertin and Williams used great connecting passes to set up Garcia’s goal off the post in the 19th minute.
Kate Allen and Niki Sebo scored goals in the 63rd and 64th minutes, respectively, to tie the game up.
Waters scored her first goal of her collegiate career moments later in the 66th minute, on an assist from Mallon, and it proved to be the game winner.
Libertin scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 75th minute off assists from Williams and Mallon.
Campbell scored her third goal in three games in the 77th minute after being set up by Williams.
Dayton hosts Central Michigan this Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field. Admission is free.
