FLYERS UPSET BY DEPAUL IN OT
DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to DePaul Sunday at Baujan Field.
The Blue Demons (4-1-1) struck first in the 23rd minute with Amber Paul scoring on a direct kick from outside the box.
Less than five minutes later senior Colleen Williams scored the Flyers' lone goal on assists from senior Alexis Garcia and freshman Ashley Campbell. Garcia’s blast from the top of the box deflected off the keeper. Campbell made a heads up play, following the shot and squaring a pass to a wide-open Williams who finished for the goal in the 28th minute.
The goal marked the first given up by the Blue Demons defense in nearly 387 minutes; DePaul had three shutouts leading up to the match against the Flyers.
Dayton (3-3-0) had a three-to-one advantage on shots, outshooting DePaul 32-10, including 13-4 shots on goal. In fact, UD’s Williams had 16 shots on her own, six more than the entire Blue Demon team.
Megan Pyrz had 12 saves in goal for DePaul.
The Flyers travel to Boston for games against Harvard on Friday, Sept. 7 and Northeastern on Sept. 9. Dayton’s next home match is against Wright State on Friday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. at Baujan Field. Admission is free.
