FMU Men’s Soccer falls to Bearcats
GREENWOOD, S.C. – Senior forward Sam Lofts recorded a hat trick, including a pair of goals in the opening 15 minutes, to lead Lander University to a 4-0 victory over Francis Marion University, Wednesday night (Sept. 27) in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer action.
Francis Marion drops to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Peach Belt, while Lander improves to 6-2-0 and remains unbeaten in conference play at 3-0-0.
The Patriots will return home to host Clayton State University on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for the program’s McLeod Children’s Hospital Day.
FMU freshman goalkeeper Raul Guillamon Bejar finished with five saves, while Lander’s Dean Cowdroy recorded six saves.
Francis Marion was outshot 20-8 and Lander took six of the match’s seven corner kicks. FMU junior Levin Sandmann accounted for four of the Patriots’ shots, three of which were on frame.
Lofts gave Lander a 1-0 advantage when he scored 2:15 into the contest. Sandmann attempted to knot the score in the seventh minute, but Cowdroy denied the shot.
Loft found the back of the net again in the 15th minute, and later in the 62nd minute.
