FMU Women fall to CCU in season opener

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">CONWAY, SC - The Francis Marion University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 road decision to Coastal Carolina University on Sunday evening (Aug. 19) in the team's 2012 season opener.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">FMU (0-1-0) will play its home opener on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Presbyterian College as the Patriots christen the brand-new Hartzler Field in the Griffin Athletic Complex. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">The loss spoiled the coaching debut of Frank Pitt, a long-time assistant coach at Kennesaw State University before taking over the FMU program this summer.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Red-shirt freshman goalkeeper Taylor O'Berry played all 90 minutes for Francis Marion and recorded three saves. Coastal Carolina (1-1-0) outshot Francis Marion 16-5 and led 10-3 in corner kicks. Four of the Patriots' five attempts were on goal.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Junior Yasmin Bunter and sophomore Elizabeth Asare each registered two shots for FMU and senior Kelly Kady had the other attempt. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">CCU took a 1-0 at 16:39 when Anna Lowe headed in a corner kick by Maddie Phillips. A free kick by Phillips was headed in by Rylie Johnson in the 27th minute to double the margin to 2-0.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">The final score came at 51:24 when Kacey Kelley took a through ball from Fia Jonsson and found the back of the net.</span></p>
