<p>The Fordham women&rsquo;s soccer team got off to a flying start in the first 25 minutes of the 2012 opener against the Michigan Wolverines on Friday, pressing the attack and reeling off some good scoring opportunities.&nbsp; However, the final 65 minutes did not go Fordham&rsquo;s way, as the Wolverines netted five goals and got 10 saves from Haley Kopmeyer to register the win.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The Rams began the game pressing the Wolverine defense, recording three shots and three corner kicks over the first seven minutes, putting Michigan goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer to work early, as she stopped a Mary Solimine shot for her initial save of the game.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Fordham goalkeeper Ally White, making her second career start, opened with three saves over the next 16 minutes keeping the game scoreless, but would get beat by Meghan Toohey on a shot inside the 18-yard box to the left side of goal for a 1-0 score.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Just 2:48 later, the Rams caught a bad break, as a Michigan shot deflected off a Fordham defender right to Tori McCombs, who knocked the ball into the net for a 2-0 lead.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>With Michigan leading 2-0 at the half, Fordham changed goalkeepers as Rachel Suther made her first appearance of the season.&nbsp; Suther was immediately put under the gun, as Fordham was called for a foul in the box in the second minute of the period, resulting in a penalty kick.&nbsp; Holly Hein stepped up to the penalty kick spot and drilled in the third Michigan goal of the night.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The Wolverines added two more goals by Shelby Chambers-Garcia, one of which hit the far post and deflected in, while the other was also sent to the far post and bent in from 15 yards away.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Fordham finished the game with 16 shots, 10 on goal, compared to 21 total shots for Michigan.&nbsp; Kristina Makusti led the Fordham offense with five shot, four of which were on goal.&nbsp; Victoria Camaj had three shots in the game with Rachel Madacsi having two.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>In goal, White and Suther each played a half with each making three saves, while Kopmeyer had ten stops for the Wolverines over 82+ minutes of work.&nbsp; Maddie Clarfield rounded out the game in goal for Michigan.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The Fordham women&rsquo;s soccer team will look to rebound on Sunday, August 19^th, when the Rams travel to East Lansing, Michigan, for a game at Michigan State, beginning at noon.</p>
