Fordham Women's Soccer Shuts Out Stony Brook, 2-0
September 11, 2011
The Fordham women’s soccer team looked for a bounce back effort after its hard luck loss on Friday night at Manhattan. The Rams’ got that effort and evened their record with a 2-0 win over the Stony Brook Seawolves at Jack Coffey Field, led by two goals from Annie Worden.
With the win, Fordham improves to 3-3-1, while Stony Brook falls to 1-5.
After a scoreless first half that saw both teams finish with four shots each, the Rams cracked the scoreboard in the 51st minute. Maria Lorena Canicatti slipped in a cross from the left side of the box to Annie Worden, who connected on a 15-yard one-timer for her second goal of the season.
The same duo made it 2-0 Fordham in the 66th minute, when Canicatti crossed the ball along the end line in front of the net, where Worden banged home her second tally of the game from five yards out.
The two-goal edge was enough for freshman goalkeeper Ally White, making her first career start. White finished with three saves in the game, facing nine shots, to record her first career shutout. She joins fellow goalkeeper mates Rachel Suther and Sarah Zieman as the only Fordham goalies to record a shutout in her first collegiate start.
The Fordham women’s soccer team will next be in action on Friday, September 16th, when they travel to College Station, Texas for the Texas A&M Tournament. The Rams will face Utah Valley in the first game of the tournament at 4:00 PM Eastern time.
