Forrest wins PL Offensive Player of the Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Senior forward Mark Forrest was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The award is Forrest's second of the 2018 season and the eighth of his career.
Forrest had an outstanding game against Cornell last Tuesday, involving himself in all aspects of the offense, scoring in the 62nd minute with Lehigh trailing 2-0. Just 10 minutes later, Forrest assisted on freshman Josh Luchini's goal that sent the game into overtime.
Against BU on Saturday, Forrest's offensive play trickled over from Tuesday in a big way. He scored his fourth goal of the season, a header from junior Matthew Peralta in the 79th minute that tied the match 1-1 and sent the Mountain Hawks into overtime for the second game in a row. In the 93rd minute, Forrest assisted on Peralta's golden goal that lifted Lehigh to its fifth road win of the season, putting the team in sole possession of first place in the Patriot League with a 2-0 record.
Additionally, Peralta was given a Patriot League honorable mention for his breakout performance against the Terriers.
"I'm happy for Mark as he had a good week for us with his performance against Cornell and Boston U.," said head coach Dean Koski. "Mark's focus is to do whatever he needs to do to help the team be successful whether it is scoring goals, creating opportunities or defending."
With his two goals and two assists for the week, Forrest increased his goal total to four, his points total to a team-leading 13 points, and a tie for first in the Patriot League with five assists so far.
Forrest and the first place Mountain Hawks head back home to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Wednesday still in search of their first home victory of the season, this time hosting the two-time defending Patriot League Tournament Champion Colgate at 7 p.m.
