Fort Lewis remains at No. 3 in men’s soccer rankings for third straight week
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team (17-1-0 overall, 13-1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) remained at No. 3 in tenth NCAA Division II poll of the season, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire announced earlier today.
The Skyhawks beat Adams State 3-1 last Sunday in their only game of the week. They host the RMAC Championships on Friday and Sunday at Dirks Field.
“We’re delighted to be coming back to Durango and having the RMAC tournament here,” said third-year FLC head coach Oige Kennedy. “It’s obviously something we’ve been aiming for. We’re hoping to get a big crowd out to come and support the guys.”
The Skyhawks will face the winner of today’s RMAC quarterfinal matchup between Colorado Mines (10-6-1, 8-5-1) and UC-Colorado Springs (9-8-1, 7-6-1) at 3:00 p.m. Friday. The other semifinal pits No. 13 Regis (13-3-1, 10-3-1) against the winner of today’ quarterfinal game between No. 21 Metro State (12-5-1, 10-4-0) and Colorado State-Pueblo (5-10-3, 5-7-2).
Because this is an RMAC playoff event, no previously issued passes or tickets will be accepted for the game. All fans, including FLC students, faculty, staff, boosters, retirees, and Athletic Hall of Fame members, must purchase tickets. Single-day prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students (ages 13-college), children (ages 6-12), and senior citizens (ages 65 and older). Children age five and younger will be admitted free. All session passes are also available for $15 for adults and $10 for all others.
In addition to the three RMAC teams that were ranked this week, Metro State also received votes.
The Skyhawks rank highly amongst NCAA Division II statistical leaders. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Wirth ranks second in the nation in goals against average (0.389) and fifth in save percentage (.883). Senior midfielder Thomas Hoang ranks third in assists (11) and fourth in assists per game (0.65).
As a team, Fort Lewis ranks among national leaders in won-loss-tie percentage (second, 0.944), goals against average (second, 0.389), save percentage (fourth, .893), shutout percentage (fifth, 0.61), and total goals (eighth, 44).
