FOUR FLYERS SCORE IN 4-0 WIN OVER FIU
The University of Dayton women’s soccer team experienced an offensive explosion with a 4-0 win over Florida International Friday night at Baujan Field.
Four different Flyers scored and UD put up a season-high 15 shots on goal, helping it improve to 3-4-0 overall. The Panthers drop to 2-4-0.
Senior Juliana Libertin, sophomore Ashley Campbell and freshman Meghan Blank each had a goal and an assist to pace UD.
Sophomore Nicole Waters had two assists and freshman Erin O’Malley also tallied a goal.
Dayton’s offensive onslaught was thwarted by FIU goalkeeper Paula Zuluaga who had eight spectacular saves in the first 34 minutes of the match.
The Flyers finally broke through in the 35th minute. Libertin scored the game-winner on a beautiful bending shot from outside the 18 to the opposite post. Combination passing from Campbell and Waters set her up.
Blank scored her first collegiate goal in the 41st minute on a header off the corner kick from Libertin and the Flyers held a 2-0 lead at the half.
Dayton continued to pound the FIU goal. Another set of great combination passes from Waters and Blank set up Campbell’s goal in the 84th minute. It was Campbell’s team-leading fourth of the season.
O’Malley put away UD’s last goal with 25 seconds left in the match on a long floating shot from about 30 yards out.
Dayton is back in action this Sunday at Wright State at Alumni Field at 7 p.m.
