Francis Marion falls to 49ers 6-0
CHARLOTTE, NC - Francis Marion University played competitively with Charlotte for 78 minutes before a three-goal barrage decided the outcome of a 6-0 49ers' victory over the Patriots, Tuesday evening (Sept. 25) in non-conference women's soccer action.
The Patriots drop to 5-5-1, while Charlotte ups its mark to 6-3-1. Francis Marion’s next match will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, when the Patriots travel to College Park, Md, to take on 18th-ranked Maryland.
Charlotte took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute and added scores in the 16th and 32nd minutes to lead 3-0 at halftime. FMU held the score there until the 49ers tallied three goals in a span of 1:52 to take a 6-0 advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Junior Yasmin Bunter led Francis Marion with four shots, three on goal, while sophomore Chanel Harris added two shots, both on target. The 49ers led 22-6 in shots and held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
FMU freshman goalkeeper Taylor O'Berry recorded three saves.
