Francis Marion falls to Bulldogs
CHARLESTON, SC – The Citadel scored a pair of second-half goals in a span of 76 seconds and the Bulldogs went on to claim a 4-0 victory over Francis Marion University, Sunday afternoon (Sept. 13) in women’s soccer action.
Francis Marion (1-7-0) will play host to Wofford College on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. on Hartzler Field.
Patriot senior goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry improved upon her school record for career saves with nine stops – thus upping her four-year total to 352. Her saves included stopping a Bulldog penalty kick in the 85th minute.
The Citadel outshot the Patriots 24-8 and held a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Francis Marion junior Kelly Anthony recorded three shots, while junior Tori Whigham put two shots on frame, forcing saves in the 47th and 54th minutes. FMU sophomore Haley Bigler also attempted two shots.
Both Anthony and sophomore forward Helena Moore were named to the All-Tournament Team for this weekend’s matches that were part of the Nike Challenge 2.
The Citadel took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute and then scored the two quick goals midway through the second stanza to seal the win.
Bulldog goalkeepers Abby Koger and Kim Mora combined for the shutout.
