G-MAC quest begins with 4-0 win
SHVILLE, Tenn. - The defense was tight and four different players scored goals to highlight the Yellow Jackets' 4-0 result at Trevecca Nazarene in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's soccer opener for both schools.
Cedarville, 3-0-2 overall, has surrendered only one goal this season. Ethan Dewhurst was called upon to make just one save while posting his fourth shutout.
It took the visitors a little while to get on the board. Connor Scott scored in the 42nd minute on an assist from Jon Earl and it was 1-0 at the intermission.
Zack Gatlin gave CU some breathing room in the 53rd minute following a nice through ball from Zach Harris. Then, two late scores accounted for the four-goal differential.
Joel Twinem netted his first collegiate tally from Connor Gilmour in the 79th. Mitch Goodling was assisted by Stephen Morris in the 85th.
The Yellow Jackets outshot TNU 16-7 overall and 7-1 on goal. They attempted seven more corners (12-5) and committed four fewer fouls (12-8).
Cedarville heads to Owensboro, Ky. to face Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. EST.
