Gratz' Game-Winner Lifts ECU Over UAB, 1-0
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Chrissy Gratz scored her third goal of the season in the 22nd minute of play and the East Carolina women's soccer team held on to pick up its third win in Conference USA action Sunday afternoon over UAB, 1-0. With the win, the Pirates improve to 7-5 overall, 3-1 in league play, while the Blazers fall to 2-10 and 1-3 in C-USA.
Gratz, who shares the team lead in scoring with Lexi Miller, found the back of the net early in the first half recording her fifth career game-winning strike.
Pirate keeper Christiane Cordero posted her fifth shutout of the season, third in C-USA play, after recording four saves. For the junior out of Valencia, Calif., it was her 12th career clean sheet and 27th career win.
The Blazers outshot the Pirates 16-13 on the day, but were unable to find the back of the net with their four shots on goal. The Pirates, had eight shots on goal with Gratz and Kelly Miller each posting a pair.
UAB freshman keeper Angelica Jimenez recorded seven saves after replacing starter Courtnie Northern in the 14th minute.
ECU will continue its four-game road trip next weekend heading to the Lone Star State to square off against Houston (Oct. 5 at 8 p.m./ET) and Rice (Oct. 7 at 2 p.m./ET).
