Grause Nets Goal in Bearcats' Loss
The University of Cincinnati snagged an early 1-0 lead in Sunday’s match versus Nebraska, but the Cornhuskers rallied to net three second half goals to defeat the Bearcats.
Despite traveling from Florida to Nebraska on Saturday, Cincinnati (0-2-0) showed no fatigue early in the match as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 13 minutes into the contest. Junior Mackenzie Grause got by the Huskers’ (2-0-0) defense and capitalized on a one-on-one opportunity against the goalkeeper. The goal, which was unassisted, was Grause’s first of the year.
The Bearcats continued to hold the 1-0 lead at the end of the first half, despite being outshot 14-7.
Nebraska came out firing in the second half as they evened the game just nine minutes in. The early second half goal was contagious for the Cornhuskers as they tallied three more goals to make it four unanswered.
Junior goalkeeper Kristina Utley was given the start in net versus the Huskers and recorded 10 saves in UC’s loss.
The Bearcats remain on the road as they face Dayton next Friday night before returning to Gettler Stadium for their first home match of the season, which is against UMass-Lowell on Sunday. Friday’s match versus the Flyers begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.
