Sept. 21, 2014
DOVER, Del. - The George Washington women's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals en route to a 2-0 win over Delaware State on Sunday afternoon at the Hornets' Alumni Stadium.
The Colonials (6-2-0) earned their fifth shutout victory of the season and junior transfer goalkeeper Ellen Conway picked up her first win in the Buff and Blue as GW snapped a two-game skid. The Hornets fell to 2-8-0 on the year.
After entering halftime scoreless, junior Brooke Stoller scored her first career goal at 56:54 to break the tie and put GW on the scoreboard. Sophomore Kate Elson then tallied the insurance goal just over 20 minutes later at the 77:12 mark for her first goal of the season.
The Colonials dominated on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field, outshooting the Hornets, 17-5, while putting 11 on target, and holding a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Conway needed to make just one save between the posts on the afternoon.
GW returns home on Saturday, Sept. 27 for its non-conference finale against Revolutionary Rival George Mason. Kickoff at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus is slated for 3:30 p.m.
