With the win at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility GW improves to 3-2 on the year, matching its best start through five games since the 2007 season. Senior Adriana Moya scored first for the Colonials in the 17th minute of action and freshman Kristi Abbate netted the gamewinner - her first career goal - midway through the second half to lift GW to victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Fasano made four saves on the day while the back line of sophomore Alex Brothers, senior Samie Cloutier and juniors Melanie Keer and Jane Wallis held a strong defensive front, not allowing the Tigers any second-chance attempts at the goal.
Just 16:35 into play, Wallis set the squad up for a corner kick and sailed the ball into the box where sophomore Meg Murphy's header narrowly bounced off the crossbar, but GW's offensive pressure did not cease. Wallis collected Murphy's deflection and sent a cross from the right side, as Moya leapt into the air and headed the ball into the left side of the net to put the Colonials up 1-0 at the 17:12 mark.
GW held onto the lead for the remainder of the period and went into the break with the 1-0 advantage.
Towson (0-5-1) registered five shots in first-half action but did not find the back of the net until 9:02 into the second when Tigers' goalkeeper Erin Quinn punted the ball downfield and Cheyenne Skidmore dribbled into the box and fired into the lower left corner to score the equalizer.
Just over 10 minutes later at the 64:16 mark, junior Alex Neal sent a cross from the right side to Abbate, who stood 15 yards out, and buried the game-winning shot into the right corner of the net.
The Colonials tallied 14 shots on the day, seven in each half, while the Tigers recorded 15, including 10 in the second half alone.
