College Soccer News: Top 30 Recruiting Classes (February 2015)
BOSTON - Two members of the Northeastern men's soccer team's 2015 recruiting class, sophomore transfer Khesanio Hall and freshman Andrew Lombard, have recently been recognized for outstanding play within their respective development leagues.
Hall, a forward for the Ocean City Nor'easters of the Premier Development League (PDL), was selected to the league's All-Eastern Conference Team on July 27, as voted on by team management. The Santa Cruz, Jamaica, native helped guide Ocean City (7-4-3, 24 pts.) to a sixth-place finish in the Mid Atlantic Division, leading the team with nine goals in 13 matches (0.69 avg.).
By season's end, Hall was ranked among the top 10 in the PDL in two statistical categories: goals scored (nine), and total points (20). Only four players in the entire 63-team development league managed to score more goals than Hall as the sophomore produced nearly 30 percent of the Nor'easters' total offensive production (31 goals).
Lombard, a defender for the New York Red Bulls Under-17/18 squad of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA), was named to the Eastern Conference Best XI for his exceptional play during the 2014-15 season. The Montclair, New Jersey, native was a vital member of the Red Bulls' back line, limiting opposing strikers to just 12 total goals during the time in which he was on the field.
A seasoned defender, Lombard helped New York sport the second-best defense in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division, allowing just 31 goals in 26 matches. His strong defensive play helped the Red Bulls swing a +65 goal differential, a mark that led New York to a division title with a 19-4-3 overall record (60 pts.) and a spot in the group stage of the 2015 USSDA playoffs.
Lombard was also one of six defenders that was named to play for the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team at a training camp in Carson, California, held earlier this summer from July 6 to July 14. During the camp, the U.S. squad participated in the 2015 U-18 Men's NTC Invitational Tournament, where the team lost to Uruguay U-18, 2-1, on July 11 and drew with the Czech Republic U-18, 2-2, on July 13.
In addition to signing Hall and Lombard, Northeastern head coach Brian Ainscough has added nine more student-athletes to a recruiting class that already ranks among the strongest in the nation. On February 11, the Huskies' 2015 recruiting class was ranked 26th according to a top 30 poll released by College Soccer News. Northeastern was also the lone CAA team to appear in the poll.
The Huskies will begin their quest for a CAA title at Parsons Field on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. with a non-conference game against Temple.
