Hartwick Beats Georgia Southern 3-0
ONEONTA, NY – Three different Hawks scored goals as Hartwick defeated Georgia Southern by a 3-0 final score on Saturday at Elmore Field. The victory gets the Hawks back on the plus side with a 7-6-1 overall record. They also improve to 2-1 in league play. The Eagles drop to 6-7 and 1-2.
’Wick has now won three consecutive games. The Hawks also improve to 3-2 against Georgia Southern all-time.
The Hawks got a fast start on the counterparts as they jumped ahead less than five minutes into the match. Marc Berry (Galashiels, Scotland/Galashiels Academy) provided a cross which Johnny McBeth (Glasgow, Scotland/Upper Iowa University) got on the end of for his second tally of the season.
The Hawks maintained their advantage for the next 39 minutes and were awarded a penalty kick at the 42:40 mark of the first half. Jamie O’Grady (Falkirk, Scotland/Falkirk HS) stepped up for the kick and put it away for his league-leading 13th goal of the season for a 2-0 advantage. The senior forward now has 66 career points in a Hartwick uniform which ties him for 15th in the program’s record book.
The Hawks weren’t finished as they tacked on their third goal to put the game away in the 74th minute. Kane O’Neill’s (Lochwinnoch, Scotland/Gryffe HS) cross into the box found Hamish Ritchie (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aboyne Academy) who beat Eagle goalkeeper Torgeir Fjaer for his first tally on the season.
The Hawks finished the match with an 11-9 edge in shots. The Eagles had more corners than the Hawks (8-3) but were not able to generate a goal from them.
Lenny Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland/Cults Academy) was called upon to make three saves in earning the clean sheet. It marks his four shutout of the campaign. Flaer made three stops for Georgia Southern.
Hartwick next plays on Tuesday night at the University at Albany. Kickoff between the Hawks and Great Danes is slated for 7 p.m.
